Exostoses and Osteomas of External Auditory Canal
Exostózy a osteomyzevního zvukovodu
Od 1. 1. 1997 do 31. 9. 2002 bylo na Klinice ORL Krajské nemocnice Pardubice operováno18 mužů a jedna žena s exostózou nebo osteomem zevního zvukovodu. Chirurgicky bylo léčeno pětnemocných oboustranně a 14 jednostranně. Histologické vyšetření bylo provedeno u 14 nemocných.Deset biopsií bylo patologemode čteno jako exostóza, dvě jako osteom, jedna jako morbus Albers-Schönberg (osteopetrosis) a v jednompříp adě nebylo možno histologicky stanovit jednoznačnýzávěr, zda se jedná o exostózu či o osteom. Autoři poukazují na etiologické, histologické a klinickérozdíly mezi těmito dvěma morfologickými jednotkami.

The authors report on 6 years of experience in exostosis and osteoma of the externalauditory canal. The surgery comprised 24 procedures on 19 patients. Fourteen biopsies have beentaken. Microscopical examination proved exostosis in 10 cases, osteoma in two cases, Albers-Schönberg disease (osteopetrosis), while one specimen was not diagnosed. The histological findingscorresponded to clinical symptoms. Etiology, histology, and differential diagnosis of exostosis andosteoma of the external auditory canal are discussed. The complications of surgery are reviewed.Surgery should be reserved for those cases of external ear canal exostoses in which conservativetreatment of recurrent concomitant inflammatory complications fails.
