Overview
Transient hypoparathyreosis is a common complication after total thyreoidectomies. Its incidence at ENT department Olomouc is 21 %. The author elaborates the group of 520 patients after total thyreoidectomies from 1997 to 2005. Statistical importance of the risk factors of transient hypoparathyroidism such as gender, age, diagnosis, volume of the gland, duration of surgical procedures and recurrent goiter was evaluated. Effect of the young age, GB thyreotoxicosis and small gland was evaluated and these factors were found to have statistical importance for development of the postoperative transient hypoparathyroidism. A new protocol of postoperative care for patients after total thyreoidectomies at ENT department Olomouc is presented.
Key words:
thyroid gland, total thyreoidectomy, transient hypoparathyroidism, hypocalcemia, tetany.
