Overview
Gustavus Ludwig Tornwaldt /German doctor 1843- 1910/ in 1885 published papers in which he desribed morphological characteristic of bursa pharyngea, use of isolated inflammatory diseases associated with hypersecretion of glands and cysts formation. Bursa pharyngea is a hole in the middle back of nasopharynx, lined by respiratory epithelium with lots of glands that arise defective embryonic development of the chorda dorsalis and primitive pharynx . Inflammation occurs when swelling and closure of outlets bursa pharyngea then forming cysts that contain proteins and anaerobic bacteria. It occurs in 4 percent of the population with the highest incidence among 15-30 years of age, regardless of gender. Tornwaldt's cyst is asymptomatic in most cases. Resulting from trauma, surgery is rupture of cysts, release of content and expression of clinical symptoms – halitosis, postnasal drip mucus, and recurrent inflammation of the respiratory tract or middle ear. It is called Tornwaldt’s disease. We present a group of 7 patients for 10 years, emphasize the importance of endoscopic diagnostic by imaging methods such as CT and MRI. Evaluate the results of surgical treatment of minimally invasive approach using endoscopic techniques.
