Overview
Deep neck space infections always posed both diagnostic, as well as therapeutic problem. The diagnosis is difficult due to the complexity of the signs and locations of the inflammation in the deep neck space. Before the contemporary imaging methods the disease was often revealed in the advanced stage. This fact together with non-sufficient anti-inflammatory pharmacologic treatment explains historical high mortality. However, even with arrival the up-to-date imaging methods and efficient drugs, this fortunately rare disease is not easy for diagnosis nor for treatment. It can be said that despite the first-rate antibiotic therapy the deep neck space infections are nowadays still a dangerous disease with a risk of mortality. In this case report we present a clinical course of the disease and diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm.
