Overview
The aim of this paper is to summarize information about an evaluation of voice properties. The main emphasis was placed on described methods and protocols in the field of pathological voice assessment. These descriptions of older standardized protocols were focused on pathological qualitative properties of voice as roughness, harshness, breathiness, strain etc. Latter protocols used complex approach; they describe voice in functional way with respect to other properties connected with voice production as breath, attitude, and articulation. These novel protocols are going out from phonetic and therapeutic techniques. That extended point of view makes perception protocols to be a universal tool for documentation of voice functions as well as tool for therapeutic planning and for monitoring of changes during intervention.
In this paper there are summarized perceptual properties of pathological voice in a psychoacoustical point of view. Perceptual properties are described in connection with patho-physiological background. At the end of paper there is proposed new wide perceptual protocol for pathological voice evaluation.
Key words:
voice, perceptual evaluation, voice quality, perceptual protocol.
